With the start of college football less than two weeks away, a handful of major programs across the country have yet to name a starting quarterback.

Schools such as Colorado, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan have all yet to announce who will be behind center in 2025, but fans did clarity on one of the most historic college football programs in the country on Monday.

In what was a three-man quarterback battle, it was former five-star recruit Ty Simpson beating out Washington transfer Austin Mack and the highest-ranked quarterback recruit in program history, Keelon Russell for the right to be the starter at Alabama.

CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz confirmed the result of the battle on Monday.

"Alabama is expected to name Ty Simpson as its starting quarterback, sources tell me and @chris_hummer for @CBSSports," Zenitz wrote. "Former five-star recruit who waited his turn the last few years. Now in line to get his opportunity to the Crimson Tide’s starting QB."

Russell was the prized recruit for Kalen DeBoer in what was his first full recruiting cycle. The Duncanville product ranked as the No. 2 quarterback, No. 2 player in the country and No. 1 player in the state of Texas in the 2025 class. He was also named as the Elite 11 MVP, and according to On3, boasts a NIL Valuation of $1.3 million.

As for Simpson, he was also a former five-star recruit, but has served as a backup for all three of his seasons in Tuscaloosa. The first start of the Simpson era will take place on Aug. 30 as the No. 8 Crimson Tide will take on the Florida State Seminoles.
