The Detroit Tigers took on the Chicago White Sox on the south side of the Windy City on Monday with manager AJ Hinch's team claiming a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth inning.
A double by former Tigers second round pick and outfielder Jahmai Jones gave Detroit what appeared to be a good chance to extend their lead ahead of the White Sox's final at-bats.
Then, something "insane" happened as a strong weather system quickly appeared over Rate Field, causing fans to scramble for the concourse.
Tigers color commentator Andy Dirks said it was the fastest he had ever seen fans leave their seats, while play-by-play man Jason Benetti gave an update on the weather system that caused play to stop at a wholly inconvenient time in Chicago.
"What in the world," Benetti said as a strong rain quickly enveloped the stadium.
"This is insane...I've been doing games here for eight years and I've never seen anything like it," Benetti added.
Benetti said the forecast in the area called for storms "likely to continue through 1 a.m.," he said.
"This is crazy," Benetti continued.
The game eventually resumed and was in progress as of 11:03 p.m. ET.
Play was halted after a pitch from White Sox reliever Brandon Eisert appeared to slip out of his hands and nearly hit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler, whom announcers expected would be intentionally walked after Jones' double.

Monday also included historic Spencer Torkelson news announced prior to the contest. Monday's game came after critics took their potshots at the Tigers for their previous trade deadline strategy.
The White Sox made an official announcement on their X account that was retweeted by the Tigers' account as the rain delay continued.
