Packers expose Colts' below average O-Line with nine sacks in 'one-sided' joint practice

The Packers didn't have a great offensive day, which was expected with so many injuries. However, the Colts offensive line just got flat out embarrassed.

The Packers are currently facing challenges on the offensive side of the ball due to several injuries. However, most of those injuries are expected to be resolved by the time the regular season kicks off. In their recent joint practice with the Colts, the offense looked out of sync.

“Disjointed first 11-on-11 period for Packers offense. Penalties and incompletions. One notable completion was Taylor Elgersma having plenty of time to hit Isaiah Neyor for a big gain down the left side. Understandable given Packers w/o QB and five WRs, but still not pretty,” The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman wrote.

Despite the offense’s underwhelming showing, the defense stepped up in a major way. The Colts aren't expected to be strong this season, especially considering their quarterback situation—and now, their offensive line appears shaky as well.

“I'm told from Colts side it was their starting offensive line. And to be clear: That starting offensive line is awful. Still, very impressive day from a Packers pass rush that needs a lot more of those,” Packers beat writer Ryan Wood wrote.

The Packers' defense recorded nine sacks during the practice, with Lukas Van Ness contributing more than one. While the offense struggled, the defense completely dominated. In fact, the entire practice session was heavily one-sided.

“Colts finally get into the end zone in their sixth rep inside the 15. A 3-yard run against Packers defense on third-and-goal. Something good had to happen for that offense. Next snap, football sails high over Anthony Richardson’s head. This is very one sided,” Wood wrote.

This is a promising sign for the Packers, especially given that their defensive line came into training camp facing some questions. Yes, it was against a below-average Colts offensive line, but the performance still shows that the Packers are capable of dominance on that side of the ball. If the defense can continue to play at that level once the offense is healthy and firing, Green Bay will have a legitimate shot at winning the NFC North.
