Some nights, the Yankees need more than a win. Something that they had been missing for a long time. But Monday night in the Bronx, Will Warren delivered one.
For nearly two weeks, New York’s rotation had struggled to last six innings. Max Fried fell short. Luis Gil, Carlos Rodón and Cam Schlittler couldn’t get there either. Then came Warren, 26 years old, first full MLB season, pitching like he owned the place.
He shut down the Minnesota Twins for 6⅔ innings, striking out five, walking none and giving up just two solo shots. He retired 17 of the first 18 batters he faced. The Yankees’ social media team didn’t miss the moment, posting, “Will Warren Winnin’.”

Manager Aaron Boone didn’t hold back either, saying Warren now knows “he can get really good hitters out with his stuff” and carries that expectation.
Warren Silences Doubts
Warren’s night wasn’t just about numbers. It was about answering a bigger question — does he belong in this rotation for the rest of the season? His past four starts say yes. A 1.93 ERA over that stretch has given the Yankees the kind of stability they’ve been missing.
Even when he fell behind 3-0 to three different hitters, he battled back to retire each one. He mixed his four-seam fastball, sinker and off-speed pitches to keep Minnesota off balance. Byron Buxton and Trevor Larnach tagged him for homers, but that didn’t rattle him.
It was the first time in his career he pitched six or more innings while allowing three or fewer hits. More than that, it marked the 19th time in 25 starts this season he has held opponents to three earned runs or fewer. Only four other Yankees rookies since 1974 have started that many games.
Right now, there’s no debate. Will Warren isn’t just holding a rotation spot. He’s one of the Yankees’ most reliable arms, and they know it.
