Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. has been working all offseason to improve himself to be an optimal option in the team offense.
Quick and nimble won’t be the only adjectives used to describe Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. in his second NFL season. Harrison Jr. has been spending his offseason and training camp under the provision of strength and conditioning coach Evan Marcus and a staff of exceptional nutritionist to help him bulk up.
Harrison Jr. has gained 11 pounds and now weighs in at 220 pounds when he was only 209 pounds just a season ago.
In an NFC West division where there aren’t many all-pro defensive backs, Harrison Jr. may marvel some spectators in Year 2. With an increased muscle mass, Harrison Jr. should be able to more easily break away from defenders attempting to jam him at the line of scrimmage. Additionally, Harrison Jr. may become even more difficult to tackle in the open field on crossing, drags, screens, and seven routes. For reference, it's important to note that Harrison Jr. averaged an impressive 14.3 yards per catch as a rookie.
Harrison Jr. has been getting quality practice reps versus rookie defensive back Will Johnson. In the NFL preseason 20-17 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, Harrison Jr. had just one reception on one target. Harrison won't play in the Cardinals' second preseason game this weekend against the Denver Broncos on Saturday, but fans can expect him to be a prime factor offensive coordinator Drew Petzing's attack during the regular season.
