High school football is back in the Silver State and now teams begin the road to Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, where Nevada’s NIAA state championships.
We have been diving in to the 2025 Nevada high school football season and forecast the teams that we think will be competing for state championships and give you our prediction now on who will be hoisting titles later.
Class 5A-Division I: Bishop Gorman
It’s no surprised that one of the best programs in the land is our state champion here as they head into the season as the No. 2 program in the land. The Gaels won last year’s 5A, Division I classification with ease in a 69-7 rout of Arbor View. This is honestly the easiest pick of any NIAA class as the Gaels bring back a star-studded cast of players. Jett Washington, a five-star safety, has already committed to Dan Lanning‘s Oregon Ducks and heads into his senior campaign eyeing another state title to end his high school career. Back behind center is quarterback Maika Eugenio (Hawaii commitment), who threw for 2,043 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2024.
Class 4A: Sports Leadership & Management Nevada
With the realignment passed by the NIAA back in January, SLAM Nevada coming off a 9-4 season now sees itself as a full fledge state championship contending squad in Nevada’s Class 4A. The Bulls won last year’s Class 3A state championship and bring back enough talent to remain in contention this fall on the road to Allegiant Stadium. SLAM Nevada returns dual-threat quarterback Alaijah Young, who totaled 2,500 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2024.
Class 3A: Truckee
The Wolverines lost in a heartbreaker, 34-30, decision to Sports LEadership & Management (see above) in last year’s Class 3A state title game. Now with the realignment and SLAM Nevada bumping up a class, Truckee, which is based in California but is geographically closer to Nevada schools, has a slew of starters back from last year’s team. Among the returners is junior running back Ivan Esparza, who rushed for 881 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore.
Class 2A: Needles
Like Truckee above, Needles is another school that is much more geographically closer to Nevada but is also based out of the Golden State. Seeing that the Mustangs were right on the precipice of winning a state championship last season, falling to Incline 12-8 in the 2A state semifinals, Needles now has its sights set on taking the class this fall. The Mustangs have their quarterback back behind center in Hudson Smith, who totaled 911 yards and scored 12 touchdowns.
Class 1A: Pahranagat Valley
Like when we said Bishop Gorman was the hands down favorite in Class 5A, Division I, we’re saying something very similar regarding Pahranagat Valley in Class 1A. The Panthers have won a state-record 24 state championships and have shown no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Upending Tonopah, 28-6, last year in the final, folks can expect a possible rematch between the two teams as each brings back numerous starters from the year before.
