Texas Longhorns 2025 Schedule: Five Most Important Games for a Championship Run

Let’s discuss the five most important games in what promises to be another championship-contending season for Texas. And by championship, we can’t forget the SEC Championship, where Texas will be eager to get over the near-miss from its inaugural season in the conference.

“They’re all important!”

“The next one is the most important.”

“We need to go 1–0 this week!”

That last one gave me flashbacks.

With the caveats out of the way, let’s discuss the five most important games in what promises to be another championship-contending season for Texas. And by championship, we can’t forget the SEC Championship, where Texas will be eager to get over the near-miss from its inaugural season in the conference.

1. @ Georgia – November 15

Georgia beat Texas decisively last October, then escaped with a narrow win in the SEC Championship Game. Texas feels like it let one slip away last season. Like in 2024, this matchup will have obvious conference title implications, and its later placement on the schedule could add even more drama.

2. @ Florida – October 4

Throw last year’s blowout in Austin out the window. Assuming health, the Gators will be led by the dangerous Derek Lagway at quarterback. He’ll be protected by a quality offensive line and surrounded by plenty of skill talent. Billy Napier can buy himself more time in Gainesville if he can carry over the late-season momentum from 2024.

3. Oklahoma – October 11

Texas will be coming off what could be a physically and mentally demanding game the week before. While I’m nowhere close to buying into the John Mateer Heisman hype—or the Sooners as true conference contenders—they could arrive at the Cotton Bowl riding high. Speaking of hot seats, Brent Venables is currently sitting on a flame-retardant donut. He better hope his offense gives his defense some help.

4. Texas A&M – November 28

The Aggies will likely enter this game at 8–3 and looking to avenge last season’s 17–7 loss in College Station—it wasn’t nearly as close as the score indicated. Mike Elko is a solid coach who’s likely repairing the culture in College Station, but unless Marcel Reed makes tremendous strides, it’ll be difficult for A&M to score enough to win.

5. @ Ohio State – August 30

Though it’s not a conference game, it’s No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the AP Coaches Poll and a rematch of last year’s national semifinal. Texas used its win over Alabama in 2023 and its victory over Michigan in 2024 to springboard into conference play. While a win in Columbus won’t affect SEC standings, it would be a massive boost to the Longhorns’ playoff résumé and seeding.
