Sophie Cunningham’s Loud Reaction After Physical Incident With Paige Bueckers

Cunningham vs. Bueckers got physical...

Sophie Cunningham’s Loud Reaction After Physical Incident With Paige Bueckers originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever looked to secure their 19th win of the 2025 WNBA season on Tuesday night, hosting Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings.

Cunningham has found success in her first season with the Fever, earning a starting spot for the first time midway through July.

Bueckers, on the other hand, is the clear frontrunner to win the WNBA Rookie of the Year award, already inserting herself as one of the best players in the league.

With 1:14 left in the first half, things got physical between Cunningham and Bueckers. On a Wings' offensive possession, Cunningham played tight defense on the former UConn guard, who tried to create space by shoving her away. A foul was called, but the officials gave the personal to Cunningham instead of calling an offensive foul on Bueckers.

After seeing the replay, Cunningham was visibly frustrated that the call didn’t go her way and made her feelings clear on the court.

"God damn it," Cunningham yelled.

Even WNBA legend Rebecca Lobo, who was calling the game on ESPN, sided with Cunningham.

"I thought this might of been an offensive foul," Lobo said.

This marked one of the few times things got chippy between Cunningham and Bueckers.

Early on in the first quarter, Cunningham contested a 3-point attempt from Bueckers, only to land underneath the Wings' No. 1 pick. The former Phoenix Mercury guard picked up a flagrant foul, giving Bueckers three free throws and possession to Dallas.

This will also mark the last time the Fever will face the Wings in 2025. Out of the four games this year, fans were treated to a Bueckers vs. Caitlin Clark battle just once.
