The reports about Joe Mixon's injury recovery seem ominous.

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon has been one of the most consistently productive ball-carriers in the NFL over his eight-year career.
But don't bank on that theme continuing into 2025. According to Fantasy Football Injury Analyst Jeff Mueller, PT, DPT, Mixon is not close to returning from a lingering football-ankle injury that has kept him on the non-football injury list for all of training camp.
"Among the things the team is working through is a lingering foot-ankle injury for Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon, suffered away from the Texans, with him progressing from a walking boot, to wearing a brace, to having increased mobility over the summer, to now, still being out indefinitely while rehabbing and navigating a somewhat complicated medical issue. He remains on the non-football injury list."
Mixon had a successful debut season with Houston in 2024, accumulating 281 touches for 1,325 yards from scrimmage and 12 total touchdowns in 14 regular-season games, marking the fifth 1,000-yard rushing season and third with double-digit TDs of his eight-year career.
Other options out of the Houston backfield include Nick Chubb, Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale, and rookie fourth-rounder Woody Marks. Mueller, who focuses on the implications of injuries, warns fantasy football competitors to steer clear of Mixon.
"I have received info from two different people," Mueller said. "That info has been enough for me to fully remove Joe Mixon from by board for 2025."
Mixon was reportedly in a walking boot during Houston's offseason program and was expected to be back in the lineup once training camp hit, but has since seen that status take a shift.
