One step forward.
Commanders make big Terry McLaurin announcement amid injury, contract, trade saga originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Washington Commanders and Terry McLaurin have taken a step forward.
Sort of.
The Commanders removed McLaurin from the physically unable to perform list on Saturday.
He's still got an active trade request, and he's still got no new contract. But this is one step forward for McLaurin.
His removal from the PUP list sets McLaurin up for "the process of getting his body ready," writes NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
It isn't immediately obvious whether McLaurin will actually return to the practice field now that he's healthy, or if his hold-in will continue.
ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote that this move is "unrelated to negotiations."

McLaurin is entering the final year of his contract, and as players do in his shoes, he wants a new deal. And like Trey Hendrickson and Micah Parsons, nothing is done yet. The regular season is less than a month away, and the drama is building for sure.
The former Ohio State star McLaurin appears to be seeking something like the four year, $132 million deal that DK Metcalf signed with the Steelers. Metcalf was in McLaurin's draft class, although Metcalf is two years younger than McLaurin.
The Commanders have relied on McLaurin as their WR1 essentially since he entered the league, and he put up numbers even with terrible quarterback play. Last season with Jayden Daniels, the Commanders finally put it all together and had a huge season.

Now they're facing the prospect of a McLaurin controversy as a much-hyped season approaches. But at least McLaurin is getting healthy.
One step at a time, with the Commanders hoping that there are more soon.
