Crean Lutheran (Calif.) 2026 defensive lineman James Tank Carrington has committed to Oklahoma.

The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Carrington recently backed off his verbal from Florida State. He becomes commit No. 17 for the Sooners in the 2026 class.

Carrington adds to a Sooners class that the Rivals Industry previously ranked No. 21 nationally. He is the nation’s No. 50 defensive line recruit.

The defensive front is a point of emphasis for head coach Brent Venables and his staff in this cycle as Carrington joins defensive lineman Brian Harris in the fold along with edge rushers Jake Kreul, Daniel Norman and Matthew Nelson.

Carrington emerged as a national recruit his freshman year. His offer list included USC, Oregon, Georgia, Miami, Texas A&M, LSU, Nebraska, Michigan and Alabama.

Moving forward Oklahoma is still looking to land another defensive target in T-Ron Richardson. They’re battling Virginia Tech for Richardson.

Carrington took his official visit to Oklahoma the weekend of June 6. Future defensive line coach Todd Bates was his lead recruiter.

Carrington was selected to play in the Navy All-American Bowl this past January.
