‘Their attack is just scintillating’ – Former Chelsea star outlines why he thinks they are ready for a title challenge

Former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge believes the Blues have what it takes to challenge for the Premier League this season.

Chelsea found themselves right behind Liverpool heading into the second half of the previous campaign before falling away and ended up finishing fourth.

But Sturridge, who played 96 times for the club, says the additions of strikers Joao Pedro and Liam Delap can help Enzo Maresca’s side improve.

“Yes, 100 per cent,” he told Hayters TV when asked if his former side are in a better position to challenge this season.

“I’m so excited to see Chelsea this year. Their attack is just scintillating. Some of the talent they’ve brought in is just absolutely ridiculous, man.

“So much young talent and players who excite you as a fan, you’re going to be on the edge of your seat all season with some of the one-on-one technical ability. They’ve got skilful guys who can dribble at speed, who can dribble in small spaces, create their own chances.

“You’ve got Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, two young guys who I’ve loved throughout the duration of last season.

“I think Joao Pedro is going to be a sensational player for them and Liam Delap, for me, is going to develop into a top finisher and a top striker in the Premier League, so I’m very excited to see them.

“I’m sure I’ve missed some players out because you know what Chelsea’s like, how many guys they bring in, so I might have missed somebody out. I know Andrey Santos looks very nice in midfield too.

“But all in all, man, I’m really, really happy and excited to see Chelsea. The re-addition of Reece James as well in the defence and him being fit and healthy, having a pre-season under his belt is key for a player’s success.

“So I’m happy for him that he’s able to get through the pre-season this year and I’m optimistic for them.”
