Meet Landon Bartlett, the Statesman Journal's new sports reporter

Landon Bartlett will cover area high schools and Oregon State sports.

Landon Bartlett is the Statesman Journal’s new sports reporter.

Bartlett, who joined the newspaper in July, covers area high schools as well as Oregon State athletics, specifically football and baseball.

“What I love most about this line of work is meeting new folks, telling the stories of deserving people and watching a community develop through the lens of sports,” he said. “I'm happy to be in a place where I believe I can do that.”

In his first month on the job, Bartlett reported on Oregon Hoopla, Salem’s annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament, as well as Ironman 70.3 Oregon, the Major League Baseball draft and stories on high school football of the upcoming season.

Bartlett, who attended the University of Cincinnati, spent the 10 months prior to coming to Salem as a freelance reporter for Cleveland.com.

He was previously a sports intern for the Cincinnati Enquirer and Kenton Times in Ohio. Bartlett also served as sports editor at The News Record, the University of Cincinnati’s student newspaper.

Bartlett said he’s enjoyed learning about the Salem-Keizer area through its schools, coaches and athletes.

“It's been a very welcoming experience, and everyone has been so helpful in guiding me down the right paths,” he said. “Part of what's been the most fun is diving into the history these schools and athletic programs display. There's been so much talent and success in the area, so it's been fun learning and telling some of those stories.”
