The college football season is now right around the corner. For the Florida State Seminoles, the season is set to open with a bang when they host the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 1.
With just about two weeks until the season starts up, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell shared a new injury update on the Seminoles. That included a generally positive look at the roster, though there are going to be some players questionable for that 2025 opener.
“Right now there’ll be a couple that are probably game week, you know, thought process,” Mike Norvell said. “Squirrel [White] had something that came up. We’re feeling very confident that he will be available, but he’ll probably be limited here this next week. Kevin Wynn will be — he’s one where we’ll see exactly where things go with that, but that could be one that could stretch a little bit. Something happened here this last week, but we’ll kind of see as it goes.”
Squirrel White is a wide receiver who came to Florida State as a transfer from Tennessee. For the last three years, he’s been one of the most intriguing offensive weapons in the SEC, which culminated in 131 career receptions for 1,665 yards and six touchdowns. Then, Kevin Wynn is a freshman defensive lineman who came to Florida State in the Class of 2025 as a four-star recruit. He was the 72nd-ranked prospect in that recruiting cycle.
“I like where we’re heading with our team from a health standpoint. We’ll be able to get a couple of guys back today. I think we’ll have a plan to get a few more guys back to full participation,” Norvell said. “But even in the limited return to play, it’s been good to see where they’re at.”
Mike Norvell also jumped into the quarterback room. There, Brock Glenn has been banged up. Expected to be the backup to Thomas Castellanos, this has been a blessing in disguise, giving Kevin Sperry, a three-star recruit in the Class of 2025, more opportunities.
“With Brock [Glenn], he’s been limited throughout Fall Camp,” Norvell said. “But expecting him this week and having him back in the mix will be good. Been really pleased with what I’ve seen out of that room in general. I think Tommy’s continuing to grow his confidence, his operation. He’s made some great throws. Some really nice plays in general. I think Kevin Sperry with the extra reps that he’s been able to get through Fall Camp has really also accelerated his process of just understanding. Really pleased with what I’m seeing from him.”
Florida State is scheduled to host Alabama on August 30th. After going just 2-10 last season, Norvell knows he needs to quickly bounce back. The challenge is that the Crimson Tide are widely considered one of the best teams in the country and a threat to make the College Football Playoff this season. So, the Seminoles need all hands on deck.
