Tenuta spent time with the Colts in 2022.
Luke Tenuta a ‘near lock’ for Colts 53-man roster following injuries originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Colts are banged up on the offensive line, specifically at the tackle spots. Starting left tackle Bernhard Raimann was held out of Saturday’s preseason clash with the Packers as he nurses an ankle injury suffered in practice and right tackle Braden Smith left the game in the first half with a groin injury.
But the big storyline was Blake Freeland, who suffered a fractured leg and was carted off the field. The Colts have not provided an update on his status, but it’s unlikely Freeland is able to make it back on the field in 2025.
Freeland was in a competition with rookie Jalen Travis for the swing tackle position. Indy tends to roster four tackles, with both seeming like the last two on the depth chart.
But the injury obviously changes that. Luke Tenuta stepped in for Freeland, and was quite impressive, according to Sports Illustrated’s Zach Hicks, who mentioned Tenuta as a bubble player who stood out against the Packers.
Tenuta filled in fairly well for Freeland in his absence and actually made several key blocks in the second half of the game,” Hicks wrote. “Tenuta basically rose from practice squad hopeful to near roster lock during Saturday's game.”

It helps both Tenuta and the Colts that he’s been in Indianapolis before. He spent some time during the 2022 season with the Colts, making no appearances before being waived in October.
Only time will tell if Tenuta does stick around, but the early indications are that he’s in a good position. He can likely secure his spot for good this Saturday when the Colts wrap up the preseason against the Bengals.
