Since transferring from Northwestern, Mississippi State senior receiver Jordan Mosley has steadily improved his production with each passing season in Starkville. Entering his final Bulldog campaign, the Alabama native feels as though he is having his best camp of his career.

In a couple of weeks Mosley and his State teammates will get to put their offseason improvements on display, which will tell the tale. After Thursday’s practice, Mosley met with the media to discuss training camp among other topics:

Q: So how has camp been so far?
Mosley
: Camp has been going great. I think this is, for me, probably my best football being played. So I think we’ve had a great camp so far, very competitive. It’s been a long one but it’s been a good camp.

Q: How would you compare this year’s receivers’ room to previous ones?
Mosley
: All of the other receiver rooms were great. But this one has a lot of depth. We got guys that can rotate in, can rotate in, can rotate in, and just come in and do their job at an exceptional high level. I think that is something we lacked last year and something we didn’t have as much depth. We had great guys in that room but pretty much every guy in there can come out and dominate for us.

Q: How much does that competition keep guys on their toes every day of camp?
Mosley
: I think that is something we as a room came to an agreement about upholding a standard. Just everybody going out there and trying to be perfect. Nobody is going to be perfect but we try to be consistent every day. That is how you win a spot, just being more consistent than the next guy. As long as you are being consistent and doing your job, that is how you win.

Q: What is your secret to being consistent and improving each year?
Mosley
: I’d say one (thing) is knowing where I stand, knowing what my weaknesses are before I even come into the next year. Staying true to myself, taking constructive criticism. This is a journey, to say the least. So I know there’s going to be ups and downs, bumps, hills, bruises, whatever. So I try to stay level-headed through it all.

Q: You were initially committed to Tennessee before you went to Northwestern. Why has Mississippi State been the right fit for you?
Mosley: Well, Tennessee is someone I committed to in the 10th grade and I was committed there for a couple of years. It was actually one of the schools I didn’t want to go to out of high school when I hit the portal. When I went into the portal I had a great conversation with (Mississippi State). I knew it was a great opportunity for a lot of family to come, for a lot of my friends to come watch me. That is something I hold near and dear to my heart. At the time, my pops passed away but for him to come to every game, that is something I pride myself on, just seeing him up in the stands.

That was something that made it (home). This is a blue-collar place for underdogs. I always felt like I’ve always had an underdog story. I feel like over my career I have always been overlooked. So it’s like step after step after step, and you got to take another step. It is just going to a school where no one really has a microscope on you and you have to make yourself stand out. I like being an underdog story.

Q: Who are some of the defensive guys that have stood out to you in camp?
Mosley
: Some guys I like, I like what I’ve seen out of DeAgo (Brumfield) and he’s had a pretty strong camp. My guy and safety (Jahron) Manning and Brylo (Brylan Lanier) and Isaac (Smith) is going to be Isaac. The whole defensive line, especially. They’ve been having a great camp so far and Jet (Jefferson). He is my favorite corner to go against because he is just so sound and so technical and he’s fast and good with his hands. I think overall we’ve had a great success with the turnout of the defense.

Q: What are you looking for in the second camp scrimmage?
Mosley
: Just executing at a high level. I feel like if we execute at a high level no one can really stop us. Our defense goes against us every day so they kind of get a feel for what we do and it is not too much different. But even then we still have to clean. So just coming in each and every day and trying to get better is what we have to do.
