The Wisconsin Badgers are heading into the 2025 season needing to bounce back from a frustrating 2024 campaign. They’ll now be without tight end Tucker Ashcraft for at least some time, though, as he’s gone down with an injury.

For the time being, Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell doesn’t have an exact timeline on his recovery. In fact, it will likely be a little bit of time before there is some amount of consensus on the injury. The hope is that step will come this upcoming week.

“No,” Luke Fickell said. “I don’t know for sure just yet. I think we’ll continue to wait and see, and see what the doctors say. So, I’m sure we’ll give you an update coming up here next week.”

At a minimum, Tucker Ashcraft is expected to miss the remainder of Fall Camp. He first missed practice last Tuesday. At the time, it was being described as a lower-body injury. He would also be seen using crutches. A couple of days later, it became clear he won’t be able to go for the rest of Fall Camp.

Tucker Ashcraft is going into his third college season, all of which he has spent at Wisconsin. For his career, he has 20 catches in 25 career games for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Amid all of that, drops and penalties became a challenge for Tucker Ashcraft in 2024. That’s something he’s had time to reflect upon.

“Last year was a humbling experience,” Ashcraft said. “I’m just coming out this year with a new mentality, new mindset. Going out and attacking every ball that comes my way.”

Luke Fickell and Wisconsin do have some options at tight end behind Tucker Ashcraft. Missouri State transfer Lance Mason may be forced into a larger role early on now. Senior Jackson Acker is also expected to get plenty of playing time. Then, redshirt freshman Grant Stec is going to provide more depth if Ashcraft is out for any significant period of time.

Notably, Luke Fickell is dealing with several injuries that have popped up during Fall Camp. Senior center Jake Renfro is expected to miss at least another week with a leg injury. Then, starting quarterback and senior Billy Edwards Jr. has missed some practice time after banging knees with a defender. However, that is considered to be more out of caution.

Wisconsin opens the season on August 28th against Miami (Ohio). They’ll then have a few weeks for Big Ten play opens on September 20th against Maryland.
