Caitlin Clark, still dealing with a groin injury, has watched on as Kelsey Mitchell and the Indiana Fever have dropped three of their last four games.

In their last two games, the Fever have been without a true point guard with Clark, Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald all ruled out. To make matters worse, Colson and McDonald will miss the remainder of the season after suffering serious injuries.

But coach Stephanie White has still found a way to be competitive without a true starting point guard.

Mitchell Opens Up About Starting at Point Guard

In Saturday's win over the Chicago Sky, White elected to insert Lexie Hull into the starting lineup, sliding Sophie Cunningham to the point guard position. Despite the 22-point win, Indiana made a change for Tuesday's loss to the Dallas Wings, moving Mitchell to the point.

On Thursday, Mitchell discussed her temporary role of playing point guard for the first time since college.

"I think Steph does a good job with not even making it a big deal," Mitchell said. "I like to think that that's me, the player I am, and who I try to be. I don't make it a big deal. I'm just trying to make the right plays. Not think too much into it. And then from there, you can still be yourself."

Mitchell added that White’s confidence in her players made the transition smoother.

"I think the confidence that Steph installed in us as a group, it kind of always will be there," Mitchell added. "And so when we make adjustments, we don't want our confidence to waver. And I think she's given enough confidence to adjust and make plays the way I see fit."

Fever Sign Two New Players

While Mitchell proved she could be Indiana's top playmaker with Clark out by averaging 5.0 assists over the last two games, the Fever still addressed their point guard problem.

They first signed Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract (seven days). The former Los Angeles Sparks guard saw 13 minutes of action in her Indiana debut against the Wings, tallying zero points on 0-of-4 shooting and two assists.

On Thursday, Indiana made a second roster move, signing guard Kyra Lambert to a hardship contract. The former Duke Blue Devils prospect has never played in the WNBA but has spent several years playing professionally overseas.

Mitchell and the Fever will look to avoid another losing streak on Friday when Sonia Citron and the Washington Mystics come to town.
