Things did not go according to plan for Tyler Reddick and his 45 team at 23XI Racing. His spin in the middle of the race set him back. From there, Reddick never recovered and is still winless this NASCAR season.
With how things played out on the track, it was more bad news for Tyler Reddick. Austin Dillon shrank the bubble further. There is now a real path for Reddick to miss out on the playoffs next week at Daytona.
On top of Dillon’s win, Alex Bowman picked up a lot of points and finished P2. That closed the gap between Reddick and Bowman, who could theoretically jump Reddick in points at Daytona. Just not a great weekend at Richmond for the California driver.
After the race on Saturday night, Reddick talked to the media about the results. He knows it was not a good night for him or his playoff hopes.
“It was pretty much worst-case scenario for us,” Tyler Reddick said, via Kelly Crandall of RACER.com. “When you have a Toyota Camry as fast as ours is, you need to score the points. The 48 scored a lot of points, and the 3 won. So, all in all, it was pretty much a worst-case scenario. Yeah, we can thank Daniel Suárez for that.”
It was a tough break for Reddick when he was spun out by Ty Gibbs via Suárez’s bumper. But is that something the Trackhouse driver could have predicted when he went to move Gibbs out of the way?
At any rate, Tyler Reddick is not happy with the outcome of his night. He was not afraid to point the blame where he thought it needed to go.
While he was speaking to the media, he laid out exactly who he blamed. Even if Suárez didn’t mean to wreck the 45, it was a move that wasn’t necessary and was a little too aggressive.
“Daniel just got impatient and knocked the 54 out of the way, and that’s what took us out,” Reddick said. “Unfortunately, I had a feeling that was going to happen and I was just hoping more respect was going to be given. He went in there, and he moved the 54. I don’t know if he meant for it to wreck me, but nonetheless, I feel like time and time again, Daniel has done that type of thing.”
Tyler Reddick has to have at least an average finish at Daytona. His NASCAR Playoff dreams rest on the final race of the regular season.
