Chris Domercant embracing Power Four opportunity at UCF

Graduate transfer wide receiver Chris Domercant is making the most of his new opportunity at UCF. After stops at Stonehill and Chattanooga, Domercant says playing at the Power Four level is a dream come true as he prepares for the Knights’ 2025 season.

One of the newest faces in UCF’s receiving corps is Chris Domercant, a post-spring transfer who arrived in Orlando over the summer.

A redshirt senior from Bellingham, Mass., Domercant began his career at Stonehill College, where he caught 37 passes for 544 yards and five touchdowns in 2023. He spent last season at Chattanooga, tallying 36 receptions for 640 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 17.8 yards per catch.

“For me, the big thing was just wanting to be somewhere I was happy,” Domercant said. “Having a good mindset and being in a good place mentally is essential to being able to perform at your highest level. I’d never been to Florida before, but when I came here on a visit, it felt like the right opportunity. I’d always wanted to live here.”

The veteran receiver said he was intrigued by the chance to play for head coach Scott Frost, who is back at UCF for a second stint with the Knights, and wide receivers coach Sean Beckton.

“I did my research on the coaching staff,” Domercant said. “Coach Frost obviously had success here before, and I felt like we could repeat that same success. There’s a lot of work ahead, but his reputation definitely enticed me to come here.”

For Domercant, who played exclusively at the FCS level prior to joining UCF, the jump to Big 12 competition represents a career milestone.

“It’s honestly a dream come true,” he said. “Coming out of high school, every kid wants to play at the highest level. I didn’t have that chance right away, but I kept my head down, kept working, and God blessed me with this opportunity. Now I just have to take advantage of it.”

Domercant describes his game as fast, smart and versatile, traits he believes will help him carve out a role in a wide-open receiver room.

“My football IQ is one of my strengths. I know where to be and where the quarterback wants me to be within the scheme,” he said. “I play fast. Whatever the coaches need me to do, I’ll do it. Slot, outside, backfield, special teams, it doesn’t matter. I just want to help this team.”

That includes being in the mix as a kick returner, a role he handled at Stonehill.

“Whatever the coaches need me to do, I’ll do it,” Domercant said. “Coach Pete (Alamar) does a great job teaching us the little details, like finding open gaps. We’ve got a good unit, and I’d love to be a part of that.”

The Knights’ receiving corps enters the season with no returning production from 2024, which gives transfers like Domercant, Duane Thomas Jr. and DJ Black the chance to prove themselves quickly.

“It’s definitely a chip on our shoulders,” Domercant said. “But football is football, no matter the level. We’ve got a lot of talent in our group, even the younger guys, and everyone’s been making plays in camp. It’s exciting to think about what we can do once the season starts.”

Domercant says his adjustment has been focused on learning the playbook and building chemistry with teammates, but he already feels comfortable in Frost’s fast-paced offense.

“We like to get lined up quick and put the defense in a bind,” Domercant said. “Coach Frost stresses the little details of tempo, and with the speed we have, we can catch defenses off guard. That’s what this offense is built to do.”

With camp winding down, Domercant isn’t making predictions about playing time, but he’s confident he’ll be ready when called upon.

“I feel like I’ve worked hard and made plays, but that’s for the coaches to decide,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of players in this room, and no matter who’s on the field, I’ll support them. At the end of the day, I just want to be part of what we’re building here.”
