A Texas football star has sent an official "warning" to Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin in the wake of the Buckeyes' announcement on Monday, August 18.
On Monday, August 18, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day announced that Sayin, a former five-star quarterback at Alabama, has been named the team's starting quarterback. Sayin, a top 25 recruit originally from California, beat out former top 50 recruit Lincoln Kienholz to win the starting job. The former Alabama Crimson Tide recruit transferred out of Tuscaloosa and into Columbus ahead of the 2024 season. Sayin will take over at starting quarterback for Will Howard, the former Kansas State transfer who led the Buckeyes to a national title in 2024.
Sayin and Ohio State are scheduled to open the season on a big stage. The Buckeyes will host No. 1 Texas at The Horseshoe in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, August 30. But ahead of the matchup, a Texas football star has a warning for Sayin.
Immediately following the news of Ohio State naming Julian Sayin the starting quarterback, one of Texas' top defensive players took to his Instagram Story.
Texas football star Collin Simmons, who had 9.0 sacks as a freshman in 2024 - the third most in a single season by a freshman defensive player in Texas history - put Sayin in his sights.
Simmons posted an Instagram Story with Sayin, sending a clear message to the Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback: You are in my sights.
Fans cannot wait for this one
The Ohio State vs. Texas game didn't need any more hype - it's already No. 1 vs. No. 3, featuring last season's national title team at one of the best stadiums in the country - but the stakes have been raised on Monday.
Simmons, who was Texas' first Shawn Alexander Freshman of the Year recipient, is adding fuel to the fire on Monday. Fans are loving it.
"Julian and the Buckeyes will have the last laugh," one fan wrote.
"Ohio State is going to win by 30+," one fan added.
"Look at both of my sons fighting… how cute," another fan joked.
"Texas is going to destroy Ohio State," one fan added.
Sayin might be inexperienced, but expectations are high
Sayin is unproven, but that doesn't mean he won't produce. One prominent college football expert, Bruce Feldman, is extremely high on the Buckeyes' young signal-caller.
"Julian Sayin has officially been announced as Ohio State's starting quarterback. Back in HS he reminded me a lot of Cade Klubnik. Both are really clean and polished with plenty of juice in his arm," he wrote.
"Sayin and the Buckeyes open up next week at home. Ohio State is also breaking in two new coordinators when they face Texas and Arch Manning. The Longhorns have to replace four starting O-linemen. Can't wait to watch this one."
