The Jaguars’ franchise quarterback hasn’t reached his peak, but with new leadership and weapons around him, Lawrence remains the face of his draft.
Trevor Lawrence still has the talent to define the 2021 NFL Draft class originally appeared on The Sporting News
The crown still belongs to Trevor Lawrence. Despite a rocky start in Jacksonville, the former No. 1 pick holds his spot atop the board in a 2021 redraft, a reflection of both his steady growth and his untapped ceiling.
Lawrence hasn’t yet transformed into the generational quarterback he was billed to be, but the talent remains undeniable. He has earned 75.0-plus PFF grades in three straight seasons, even while enduring shaky coaching and one of the NFL’s weakest supporting casts. Few young quarterbacks could weather that storm and still deliver competent play.
The Jaguars believe better days are coming, and there’s reason to buy in. New head coach Liam Coen brings structure, while versatile playmaker Travis Hunter gives Lawrence a new weapon to lean on. Combine those pieces with Lawrence’s natural ability, and the door is wide open for his long-awaited leap.
Passing on Lawrence still isn’t an option. Micah Parsons and Ja’Marr Chase have been elite, but no position tilts a franchise’s future like quarterback. Lawrence remains Jacksonville’s best hope at long-term success.
The book on Lawrence’s career is far from finished. If “The Prince That Was Promised” finally delivers in 2025, sticking with him at No. 1 will look more than justified — it will look inevitable.
