The Miami Dolphins face several significant implications this season. One of the most critical is the status of head coach Mike McDaniel, who could be at risk of losing his position if the team fails to make progress. It appears the organization is creating some internal pressure around his future as well.

“All of those now put a tremendous amount of pressure on McDaniel, who is coming off his first under .500 season with the Dolphins, who were also on the outside looking in on the playoffs. We already listed McDaniel as a head coach with one of the hottest seats in the NFL entering 2025, and the road to save his job just got even more difficult,” CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan wrote.

While McDaniel’s situation remains uncertain, the Dolphins made an interesting move on Monday by hosting Matthew Judon for a visit — a meeting in which both sides were reportedly eager to reach an agreement.

“The Miami Dolphins are looking to add some pass-rush help. The team is reportedly hosting veteran pass rusher Matthew Judon on a visit on Monday, according to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz. The same report indicates both sides are motivated to get a deal done,” SI’s Dante Collinelli wrote.

There’s speculation that Judon’s visit could be tied to a possible injury on the roster — a reasonable concern at this stage of training camp. However, McDaniel firmly dispelled that idea.

“I asked McDaniel if Judon is visiting because any LB is expected to be out weeks. He said no LB is expected to be out weeks or longterm. He said team and Judon simply want to meet and see if there is potential fit,” Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson wrote.

There are two positives to take away from this development: First, it appears the Dolphins aren’t dealing with any new long-term injuries at linebacker. Second, Judon seems genuinely interested in joining the team. At his peak, Judon was a disruptive force on defense, and even though he’s in the latter stage of his career, he may still have enough left to make a significant impact.
