SV Hamburg defender Sebastian Schonlau is set to follow Thomas Müller to the Major League Soccer (MLS) side Vancouver Whitecaps, German media reported on Tuesday.

Schonlau is expected to travel to Canada on Wednesday to undergo a medical, according to Sky Germany. He is set to sign a contract until the end of 2026, with the option for an additional year, while Hamburg would receive a transfer fee in the low six-figure range.

Schonlau was under contract at Hamburg until the summer of 2026, though the German club reportedly offered him an early termination.

The 31-year-old recently lost the captaincy to Yussuf Poulsen, who joined from RB Leipzig in July, after four years wearing the armband. Schonlau was not included in the squad for Hamburg's opening round German Cup win over fifth division FK Pirmasens last weekend, a 2-1 extra time victory.

Müller joined the Vancouver side earlier in August.
