Astros Lose fourth straight in Detroit, 7-2
Although a just-barely, oppo taco two-run homer by Mauricio Dubon ended a 31-inning Astros scoring drought, that was all the scoring the team could muster en route to another humiliating defeat and lopsided series sweep at the hands of A.J. Hinch’s Detroit Tigers.
The two runs would have won it last night behind Hunter Brown, but today we got bad Framber Valdez, at least first-inning bad Framber. After falling behind 6-0 in the first on three walks, two wild pitches, two singles, a double, and a triple, the game was over after it had barely begun.
Valdez settled down after the first, at least preserving the bullpen somewhat, but the Astros were baffled by Detroit starter and former Astros legend Charlie Morton. Nor could they reach the Tigers’ bullpen, including former Astro Rafael Montero. The Astros managed just five hits total.
As of this writing, it looks like the Phillies are going to handle the Mariners as decisively as the Tigers beat the Astros today. So, without a miracle by the sea-gods, the Astros will retain their 1.5 game lead in the AL West, a division that has, of late, been disgracing itself.
