With the 2025 season fast approaching, the focus has already shifted to what’s ahead. It’s been a busy offseason for GM Howie Roseman, who continues to shape the roster—and on Sunday, he made another notable addition.
Eagles Agree to Trade With Texans
Philadelphia agreed to a deal with the Houston Texans to acquire former Alabama star wide receiver John Metchie III and a sixth round pick in exchange for tight end Harrison Bryant and a fifth round pick.
Metchie joins a wide receiver room that already includes A.J. Brown, fellow Alabama standout Devonta Smith, and Jahan Dotson.
Metchie spent the last three seasons with the Texans after being selected 44th overall in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft. He missed his rookie year following a leukemia diagnosis in July 2022 but was cleared to return in 2023.

Metchie’s NFL career hasn’t fully taken off through his first two seasons, but the potential remains evident. That talent was on full display during his three years at Alabama, where he helped the Crimson Tide capture a national championship in 2020.
Across his college career, Metchie recorded 155 receptions for 2,081 yards and 14 touchdowns. With the Texans, he appeared in 29 games, posting 40 catches for 412 yards (10.3 yards per reception) and one touchdown. This preseason, he’s added six receptions for 53 yards.

Now in Philadelphia, Metchie will have to compete for opportunities in a stacked offense, but the chance to line up alongside Jalen Hurts and reunite with former Alabama teammate DeVonta Smith could provide the fresh start he needs to reignite his career.
