Kelsey Mitchell had one of the best games of her WNBA career on Sunday afternoon, putting up 34 points in the second half and overtime to help the Indiana Fever secure a 99-93 win over the Connecticut Sun. Mitchell, a former Ohio State star, finished the night tying a career-high 38 points on 11-of-22 shooting, six assists and two steals. And she did it all without her star point guard, Caitlin Clark.
With her career night, Mitchell not only helped the Fever secure their 19th win of the 2025 season but also accomplished something no other player in franchise history has.
Mitchell Enters the Record Books
With her latest 30-point performance, Mitchell has now reached that mark 11 times in her eight-year WNBA career. That sets a new record for Indiana, surpassing WNBA legend Tamika Catchings, who recorded 10 such games across her 15 seasons with the Fever (2002–16).
Prior to Sunday's win over Connecticut, the last time Mitchell recorded a 30-point outing was on August 5, when the Fever fell to the Los Angeles Sparks 100-91. In that game, Mitchell finished with 34 points on 11-of-19 shooting and six assists.
The next-closest Fever player to Mitchell and Catchings in 30-point games is Clark, who has reached the mark five times in two seasons. Notably, Clark has missed a majority of this season, making her total even more impressive. Katie Douglas comes in at fourth with four 30-point games, while Aliyah Boston and Candace Dupree have two apiece.
"that's our MVP 🌟," the Fever wrote. "Kelsey Mitchell has passed Tamika Catchings for the most career games with 30+ points in franchise history with 11."

Mitchell is Heating Up at the Right Time
Despite the win, the Fever have faced some significant challenges over the past few weeks. They have missed Clark for the last 13 games, and recently saw Aari McDonald (foot) and Sydney Colson (knee) suffer season-ending injuries. Even Sophie Cunningham left Sunday's game early with an apparent knee injury.
On the season, Mitchell is averaging 20.4 points on 45.1% shooting, 1.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists. However, with the playoff race heating up, Mitchell has turned her game up a notch.
In the last six, she is averaging 24.7 points on 43.6% shooting, 2.2 rebounds and 5.8 assists, earning the starting point guard spot for two of those games.
With the win, the Fever move to 19-16 on the season, good for seventh in the WNBA standings. Up next, the league-leading Minnesota Lynx come to town on Friday.
