Barcelona have ‘practically reached an agreement’ to terminate star’s contrct

The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona are on the verge of closing a contract termination agreement with a member of the club’s midfield ranks.

That’s according to Marca, who point towards Oriol Romeu as the player in question.

The subject of Romeu’s future in Barcelona has of course long proven a prominent talking point in the media.

This comes after the former Southampton man returned to base with the Blaugrana following a season-long loan spell at Girona.

From here, it was quickly made clear to Romeu that he had no place in the plans of Hansi Flick for the campaign ahead.

Deco and co. in turn set about finding a new home for the 33-year-old.

With no suitor having yet tabled an offer deemed as reasonable on the part of the Camp Nou hierarchy, however, alternative arrangements have been sought.

One such option comes in the form of the termination of the remaining year of Romeu’s contract.

And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from Spain this week is anything to go by, then as much can now be considered all but imminent.

As per a report from Marca:

‘Oriol Romeu is one step away from definitively leaving Barcelona. The club and player have practically reached an agreement to terminate the midfielder’s contract, and only a few minor details remain to be finalized.’
