While the Cowboys front office remains mired in a contractual standoff with superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons, Dallas fans are directing their frustration at longtime owner and general manager Jerry Jones.

In fact, one bold Cowboys fan had to be escorted out of AT&T Stadium in Arlington after allegedly disrupting Thursday’s practice with a “Fire the GM” sign aimed at Jones. And based on security’s reaction, the 82-year-old Jones likely didn’t appreciate the display.

Check out the video below, allegedly posted by the Cowboys fan’s brother:

Jones has owned the Dallas Cowboys since 1989, serving as the team’s owner, president and general manager, meaning he’s been heavily involved in all team roster decisions for the better part of the last three decades. Of course, many of his early decisions proved quite successful, leading to three Super Bowl victories in the early 1990s. But Dallas hasn’t won a Lombardi Trophy since 1995 and hasn’t made it out of the NFC Divisional Round of the playoffs since that memorable season 30 years ago.

Micah Parsons contract dispute: Dallas Cowboys, star defender reportedly have ‘no movement’ towards new deal

The contract dispute between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys has now dragged to within two weeks of the regular season beginning. Still, progress remains incredibly slow toward reaching an agreement.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero had the latest on the contract dispute. He explained that even though the season is rapidly approaching, there have been no further negotiations between the two sides.

“We are two weeks away from tonight from the kickoff game between the Eagles and the Cowboys,” Tom Pelissero said. “As you mentioned, Brian Schottenheimer said Wednesday that he is confident Micah Parsons will be out there. However, from my understanding, there is still no movement in terms of a contract extension that is expected to make Parsons the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. There is still no communication between the Cowboys and Parsons’ agent about trying to get a deal done.”

Earlier this season, the Pittsburgh Steelers gave a contract extension to star edge rusher TJ Watt. That’s a three-year, $123 million contract that includes $108 million fully guaranteed at signing. There’s an expectation that, with Micah Parsons being younger, he’d earn more in his next contract. On top of that, while Jerry Jones has experience negotiating contracts, this is unique from other recent deals.

“So, a couple of points here. The Cowboys, of course, have a history of getting these deals done late. CeeDee Lamb was right around this time last year. Dak Prescott went all the way down to the day of the opener last year in Cleveland,” Pelissero said. “But on the flip side of that, there were longstanding, months of negotiations that went into those deals. With Parsons, there’s really been no talks whatsoever since Jerry and Micah spoke face to face way back in March. To Jerry Jones, based on his thinking, he thought that they had a deal in place.”

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer is confident that he’ll be on the field with or without an extension, but there are hurdles to clear. In particular, because he hasn’t been practicing, he probably isn’t in game shape.
