Marina Mabrey and the Connecticut Sun were up by as much as 21 points in Sunday's game against the Indiana Fever. However, thanks to a career day from WNBA All-Star Kelsey Mitchell, who scored 38 points, the Fever escaped with a 99-93 overtime win.

With the loss, Mabrey and the Sun became the first WNBA team to be eliminated from playoff contention. Still, Mabrey wanted to take positives away from Indiana's come-from-behind win.

Mabrey Discusses the Loss to Indiana

Following the game, Mabrey spoke at a press conference. The former Chicago Sky guard was asked about her message to teammates after a disappointing loss, and she took the opportunity to give the Fever their flowers.

“Just taking the positives from this game," Mabrey said. "We scored 93 points. I thought we were pretty efficient offensively. And then just understanding what works for us from one half to the other and understanding that when you’re up by 20 to a team that is a good team in this league and has some experience and veteran experience, they’re not going to come out and guard you the same way as they did the second half."

Mabrey and the Sun outscored the Fever 48-29 in the first half, but the second half and overtime were a different story: Indiana outscored them 70-45.

Mabrey continued by naming some adjustments Connecticut should make for its next game.

"So just being able to slow down, calm down, and see what they’re giving us, I think, will be something that we can adjust for the next games coming up in Washington," Mabrey added. "Especially since they’re one of the best defensive teams. So they’ll have schemes ready for us.”

Mabrey's History with the Fever

Despite Mabrey having nothing but positive things to say about the Fever, the former Notre Dame guard has a history with the team.

In the first Fever-Sun game of the 2025 WNBA season on June 17, Caitlin Clark and Jacy Sheldon engaged in a shoving match, exchanging words before Mabrey came over to defend her teammate. She shoved Clark to the floor before receiving a technical foul.

Later in the game, which the Fever won 88-71, Sheldon and Sophie Cunningham skirmished before both players, along with Lindsay Allen, were ejected.

The Sun will take on the Washington Mystics in their next game on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
