Luka Doncic’s whirlwind year has taken him from a blockbuster trade to the Los Angeles Lakers in February to signing a three-year, $165 million contract extension with the franchise this summer. The 26-year-old guard has quickly become the centerpiece of the Lakers’ future, building chemistry with LeBron James while reinvigorating a roster built for contention.

Following the big move, his focus shifted to EuroBasket 2025, where he is expected to lead the Slovenian National Team on the international stage. However, Doncic nearly suffered a major setback when he picked up an injury scare during Slovenia’s most recent game, sparking concerns ahead of the tournament opener.

Luka Doncic Update Surfaces After Injury Scare

During a EuroBasket preparation match against Latvia, Doncic collided with a teammate under the basket and immediately crumpled to the court, clutching his right knee. He limped off under his own power, prompting concern from fans and media about the severity of the injury. For a brief period, speculation swirled about whether the Lakers star had suffered a setback that could jeopardize both his international and NBA campaigns.

Amid concerns from fans, Slovenia’s basketball federation offered quick reassurance, confirming that Doncic avoided a serious injury. Now, some great news has been reported via NBA insider Marc Stein, who revealed Doncic has been cleared to play in Tuesday night’s home game against Great Britain.

Minutes after Stein’s report, Doncic made his first public post since the scare, sharing a photo of himself putting up shots ahead of the matchup — a signal of confidence that he remains ready to lead his country.

Slovenia, which Doncic guided to a memorable semifinal run at the Tokyo Olympics and has represented multiple times at EuroBasket, will look to lean on his brilliance again as they pursue continental glory in this year’s tournament.

Lakers Will Be Monitoring Luka Doncic Closely

While Slovenia celebrates Doncic’s availability, the Lakers will want to closely monitor their franchise cornerstone with an eye toward next season. Since arriving in Los Angeles in February, Doncic has transformed the team’s offensive identity, providing elite shot creation and making the Lakers a contender again in the Western Conference.

The front office will remain hopeful he can avoid further setbacks during EuroBasket, ensuring he returns healthy to chase an NBA championship. Alongside LeBron James next season, the Lakers believe they have a window to compete immediately. However, their success will hinge on their cornerstone being at full strength.
