Head coach Shane Steichen and Colts upper management recently decided on a QB1 for the 2025 season, choosing to name Daniel Jones the starter over Anthony Richardson Sr.

It’s a decision which has received plenty of criticism, and for good reason. The Colts drafted Richardson No. 4 overall with the hope that he could be their franchise guy. After two seasons of starting in Indy, he’s been relegated in favor of the more consistent veteran.

While there’s plenty of external frustration with the decision, inside the building, the Colts aren’t flinching. Defensive captain DeForest Buckner recently spoke on the decision, saying whoever was named then starter would receive unwavering support.

"Whoever it was going to be, we're going to get behind him no matter what, you know what I'm saying?” Buckner said. “Whether it was AR or Daniel [Jones]. Obviously, naming Daniel, we know who's QB1, who we're rolling into the season with, and we're going to get behind him, support him any way we can.”

According to the defensive tackle, it’s an entire team effort to ensure Jones feels properly supported, and that's been the message all along.

“What I've been telling the guys is, the best way we can support the quarterback position is everybody around him, defense, offense, special teams, everybody’s got to do their job at a high level, and we could take this thing very far.”

The Colts haven’t gone very far in recent years, failing to make the playoffs each season since 2020. The hope is Jones can help them get back to the postseason and beyond, despite his lackluster 24-44-1 record as a starter.
