Roberto De Zerbi hits back at Veronique Rabiot: ‘It’s crazy to talk about Greenwood’s second chance’

Roberto De Zerbi today had the opportunity to address comments made by Veronique Rabiot – the agent and mother of Adrien, who has been placed on Marseille’s transfer list after a dressing room bust-up with Jonathan Rowe (22) following OM’s loss to Rennes last week (1-0). At a press conference attended by Get French Football News, the Italian hit back at Veronique Rabiot’s comments about Mason Greenwood being given a ‘second chance’ in her critique of the club’s double standards.“I put my pride aside. But I don’t think I’m anyone more important than Rabiot. There’s a hierarchy,” began De Zerbi. “For Rabiot’s mother to say that we gave Greenwood a second chance… It’s crazy.”“We’re talking about people’s private lives here – it’s not fair to talk about other people. We’re talking about a fight which took place in the workplace. So when Rabiot’s mother says I bark, it’s true, as you can see in the series about OM. But sometimes I’m also capable of hugging Rabiot and showing him that we’re behind him.”De Zerbi was reacting to comments made by Veronique Rabiot yesterday in an interview with La Provence, where she was pointing towards what she saw as the club’s double standards. “When (Mason) Greenwood signed after hitting his girlfriend, De Zerbi said he could be given a second chance. I agree with giving people second chances, but would my son be the only one not entitled to one.”“It’s a betrayal. They praised him (Adrien) for a season and then shot him down and smeared his image. It’s very serious. I’ll say it again: they’re lying,” said Veronique in an interview published Friday morning. “And I’ll add that they’re not up to the job. They don’t have the right profile for the position. They’re consumed by pride and oversized egos, and they’re incapable of managing their emotions.”GFFN| George Boxall – reporting from La Commanderie, Marseille
