Spurs' Hall of Famer has hopes of return to NBA, but not how you'd think

A Spurs icon could be on an NBA bench sooner than later.

The Spurs are one of the most storied franchises from the past few decades.

Their long-term coach, Gregg Popovich, recently retired. Still, the legacy will continue to be carried on through the promising young group that San Antonio will have this season, and in the years that follow.

The Spurs had six NBA finals appearances from 1999 to 2014, winning five championships in that span.

One player who had a vital role in several of those postseason runs might make a return to the NBA, but not in a way you'd expect.

Former Spur/NBA Hall of Famer might return to the NBA

It's not often you hear there's a possibility of a Hall of Famer returning to the NBA, but this former player isn't doing it in the way you'd initially expect.

Former Spur, Tony Parker, has hopes of eventually making in on a bench again in the NBA (via Maxime Aubin).

Parker is a San Antonio fan favorite, winning four NBA titles with the Spurs during his career there.

He's one of the greatest international players of his era and has had a large influence on players joining the NBA from Europe and other countries overseas.

Parker played 18 years in the league, playing all but his final season with the Spurs.

Players as accomplished as him don't always choose to make a return to the NBA to coach after their playing career is over, but Parker wants to work his way back.

Basketball minds like his are greatly valued in today's NBA, and he might have leverage over other coaches if he were to come into the league, even with little experience.

The Spurs teams he played for were prime examples of how a cohesive unit should run, and being a part of their success is a great way to strengthen his resume, as he looks to potentially coach in the league he played in for almost two decades.
