Norwegian ski jumpers Marius Lindvik and Andre Forfang have been suspended for three months for violating ethics and competition rules in the suit manipulation scandal at the Nordic skiing world championships.
Skiing ruling body FIS said in a statement on Saturday that were not charged "with actual knowledge of the manipulations," but both athletes agreed that "they should have checked and asked questions about the night-time adjustments" made to the suits.
The period of the provisional suspension already served shall be deducted from the three-month suspension, FIS said. Lindvik and Forfang will also pay each a contribution to the costs of the proceedings of 2,000 Swiss francs ($2,494.44).
At Norway's home worlds in Trondheim in March an anonymous and secret video revealed illegal re-stitching of extra seams into the suits of the Norwegian team to make them more stable in the air which is an advantage.
Norway admitted to the manipulation for the large hill event, where Lindvik and Forfang had originally finished second and fourth, respectively, before being disqualified. Lindvik had earlier won normal hill gold, and also mixed team gold in a quartet which also included Forfang.
Three team officials, including coach Magnus Brevik, lost their jobs and have been charged with ethics and competition rules violations. FIS is yet to make a decision on their cases, but according to media reports, they could be handed suspensions of 18 months.
The World Cup starts at the end of November and the season is highlighted by the February 6-22, 2026, Winter Olympics in Milan/Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
Linvik won large hill gold at the Beijing 2022 Games, and Forfang team gold and normal hill silver 2018 in PyeongChang.
