Kansas State coach Chris Klieman offered an update on the injury to running back Dylan Edwards on Monday. Edwards suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter of Saturday’s season opener against Iowa State and did not return.

Klieman addressed the RB’s status during his press conference on Monday, saying that X-Rays gave the team good news. However, he still is uncertain about Edwards’ status for a Week 1 matchup against North Dakota on Saturday.

“I don’t know,” Klieman said. “I know the X-Ray came back negative, so that was a positive thing. But we won’t know much because we don’t practice until Tuesday. So the treatments don’t even start until this afternoon and we were gonna do nothing with the kids this morning. So they don’t even have treatments until this afternoon with us not practicing until tomorrow. I think we’ll probably have a better idea maybe on Wednesday.”

Edwards is preparing for his second season at Kansas State after transferring from Colorado. He’s expected to once again play a key role in the Wildcats backfield this year after sitting third on the roster in rushing yards behind DJ Giddens and quarterback Avery Johnson in 2024.

In 2024, Edwards proved to be a strong No. 2 option behind Giddens in the K-State backfield. He ran for 546 yards and five touchdowns while also totaling 133 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the passing game.

With Giddens moving on to the NFL, Edwards was listed atop the depth chart to begin this season. He unfortunately did not get any carries on Saturday, however.

Dylan Edwards was a highly rated recruit when he arrived at Colorado in 2023. He ranked as the No. 181 overall player and No. 11 running back in the cycle according to the On3 | Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services. The Buffaloes leaned heavily on the passing game that year, but he still led the team with 321 rushing yards and a touchdown before entering the transfer portal.

Kansas State wound up losing 24-21 with Edwards sidelined. Hopefully the Wildcats can get him back soon as he looks to make a major impact with potential to have a breakout season so long as he remains healthy. We’ll await further news on his status throughout practice this week leading up to kickoff against North Dakota at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday.
