Is Jalen Brunson still chasing after his childhood dreams?
Jalen Brunson shares differences in goals as a child compared to goals with Knicks originally appeared on The Sporting News
Jalen Brunson revealed that he's still chasing after his childhood dreams. In a recent episode of Brunson's podcast, known as the Roommates Show, with New York Knicks teammate Josh Hart, Brunson explained how his goals from his childhood remain the same to this day.
Brunson and Hart were asked if their definition of success had changed from the way they perceived it as children. The Knicks star then revealed that his ultimate goal of winning an NBA title had always been his childhood dream. Brunson and the Knicks were close to making it to the 2025 NBA Finals last season. Unfortunately for them, the Indiana Pacers got the best of them and beat them in the Eastern Conference Finals 4-2.
With that in mind, winning a ring is still Brunson's ultimate goal, and he plans on doing everything he can to achieve it with the Knicks.
“All of my goals are basically team-based. That hasn’t changed. So, it’s about obviously winning — wanting to win a championship,” Brunson said. “That hasn’t changed. ... It varies from person to person, but I think, obviously, going through a journey and trying to perfect who you are as a basketball player, and then do whatever you can to try to win a championship. My definition of success has not changed. ... You win or you don’t succeed. Plain and simple."
“The main goal is always to win a chip. I don’t think that’s ever really gonna change.”

Josh Hart shares same sentiment as Jalen Brunson
While Jalen Brunson is still stuck on achieving his childhood goals, it appears that it's also the same for his teammate, Josh Hart. He shares the same goal as Brunson, and that's to win a championship. It's not surprising considering that's majority of NBA players' goals in life. Hart mentioned that while his smaller goals have slightly changed, the ultimate goal of winning a ring remains the same.
“I don’t think mine has changed. I think the ultimate goal hasn’t changed,” Hart said. “I think there are certain parts of success that I would say probably changed a little bit. Like when I had kids and those sorts of things. But I think the main goal is always to win a chip. I don’t think that’s ever going to really change. But, for me, I will say there have been smaller things along the way that have changed the longer I’ve been in the league, and matured.”
We will see Brunson and Hart's resolve when the 2025-26 season commences in late October. The New York Knicks will take on the Cleveland Cavaliers in their season opening game on October 23.
