Football's back: See the schedule and top prep games for Fort Collins, Northern Colorado

It's opening weekend for Colorado high school football and there are some major matchups. See the top games in the Fort Collins area and across NoCo.

It's the full opening weekend for the 2025 Colorado high football season.

Almost every team across the state will be in action Aug. 28-30 after a limited Week Zero slate.

Several Fort Collins-area squads hit the gridiron for their season openers, including Fort Collins, Fossil Ridge, Poudre, Timanth and Windsor.

There are also some heavy-hitting matchups to open the season across the region.

Here is the Week 1 football schedule, including Games of the Week for Fort Collins and Northern Colorado:

Week 1 Fort Collins-area football schedule (Aug. 28-30)

  • Fort Collins at Northglenn (Aug. 28, 6 p.m.)
  • Fossil Ridge at Loveland (Aug. 28, 6:30 p.m.)
  • Poudre at Timnath (Aug. 29, 6:30 p.m.)

Timnath's Mitchell Deangelis goes in for the touchdown during a high school football game between Timnath and Poudre on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024 at French Field in Fort Collins, Colo.

Local Game of the Week: Windsor at Green Mountain (Aug. 29, 4 p.m.)

It's a top-10 matchup to open the season in Class 3A, as No. 2 Windsor visits No. 6 Green Mountain.

The Rams edged out the Wizards in a bruising 19-13 season opener last season. Both teams lost some key players but return a solid core.

This could be a tone-setter for the season for whoever wins.

NoCo Game of the Week: Berthoud at Thompson Valley (Aug. 29, 7 p.m.)

It's a battle of top-five teams in their respective classifications.

Preseason No. 4 Berthoud is coming off an 8-3 quarterfinal season in Class 2A. Thompson Valley needs little introduction as the reigning 3A state champions after an unbeaten 14-0 title run.

This will be an early litmus test and an intriguing cross-classification game among Thompson School District rivals.
