Travis Kelce’s Engagement to Taylor Swift Benefits the NFL and Its Players | SI
Kelce is the perfect example of a football creation; someone with personality who swam through the NFL content stream and found himself on the other side. Beyond even Peyton Manning, whose every commercial needs to remind you that he once played quarterback and has a large forehead. Or Tom Brady, whose every appearance in media needs to tirelessly rehash his fairy tale of determination. Kelce is talking about real Hollywood gigs. Real TV spots. Real post-career prospects toward a life where we may forget what he did for work in the first place. A crossover a la Dwayne Johnson or, yes, O.J. Simpson prior to the latter stages of his life. Kelce hosts a podcast with his brother, a former sixth-round pick center, and used that startlingly gigantic platform to profess his love for Swift in the first place, starting a relationship in earnest.
Travis and Jason are future Hall of Famers and may respectively end their careers as the greatest, or one of the greatest, at their respective positions. That should never be downplayed. But the fact that two kids from just south of Lake Erie found a stage big enough to lure a transcendent pop star into marrying one of them is still incredibly, unbelievably wild when you lay it out that way.
Winners and Losers from Every NFL Team’s 2025 Roster Cuts | Bleacher Report
Winner: QB Patrick Mahomes
The Kansas City Chiefs managed to reach Super Bowl LIX despite spending most of last season with issues along the offensive line and questionable depth at wide receiver. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes must be pleased with how much better those two position groups look ahead of Week 1.
Xavier Worthy, Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice are healthy, and Kansas City is comfortable enough with its backups that it was willing to trade Skyy Moore just before cutdown day.
With Kingsley Suamataia looking capable at left guard and rookie Josh Simmons locking down the left tackle spot, Mahomes should enjoy better pass protection this year too.
Loser: FB Carson Steele
Fullback Carson Steele got a few offensive opportunities last year as Kansas City navigated Isiah Pacheco’s leg injury. However, the 2024 undrafted free agent proved to be an inconsistent rushing option and ended up playing just 18 percent of the offensive snaps.
Steele’s experience in Andy Reid’s offense gave him a shot at sticking on Kansas City’s active roster. If he doesn’t land on the Chiefs’ practice squad, however, he could have a hard time getting back on a regular-season playing field. He has limited upside as a halfback, and few teams around the league incorporate a dedicated fullback into their offense.
Winner: Chiefs offense
The Chiefs ran 22 plays with Patrick Mahomes on the field during the preseason, and they scored three touchdowns. They actually created some explosive gains down the field for a change, with seven of those 22 plays gaining 10-plus yards and two of them going for 20-plus. That’s a far cry from where they were over the last two years. With a healthy wide receiver corps to start the season, we could see the high-flying Chiefs offense make a comeback.
2025 NFL roster cuts tracker: Live updates for all 32 teams | ESPN
Biggest move: The Chiefs, in a rare scenario, kept eight receivers — Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Tyquan Thornton, Nikko Remigio, Jason Brownlee and rookie Jalen Royals. One could argue that the Chiefs did such in case Rice agrees to a shortened suspension with the league, one that is different from what the NFL initially wanted, which was at least an eight-game punishment. As of now, Rice is expected to have his disciplinary hearing with the NFL on Sept. 30 in New York. If nothing changes before then, Mahomes could have six receivers in uniform in Week 1 against the Chargers. Remigio would be the top returner and Thornton would be on the bench in case of an injury. — Nate Taylor

Chargers activating RB Najee Harris (eye) from non-football injury list | NFL.com
The Chargers are moving the running back from the non-football injury list to the active roster, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Tuesday.
Harris is recovering from injuries sustained in a fireworks accident that affected several attendees during a Fourth of July event in Antioch, California, causing him to miss the start of training camp. He returned in a limited fashion in mid-August, and a lack of notable news led many to believe he might not play much of a role in the early portion of the Chargers’ 2025 season.
Instead, it sounds as if Harris could be back quite soon.
Bills waive son of NFL legend despite impressive preseason | Yardbarker
Frank Gore Jr., the son of former NFL running back Frank Gore, was waived by the Bills on Tuesday. The decision came as somewhat of a surprise, as Gore Jr. was impressive in Buffalo’s three preseason games.
Gore Jr. finished the preseason with 104 rushing yards on 23 carries. He also had 11 catches for 109 receiving yards. Gore Jr. was the only player in the NFL who had more than 100 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving during the preseason.
The Bills signed Gore as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss last year. He was also effective during his first NFL preseason, but the team felt he did not do enough to earn a 53-man roster spot. The 23-year-old was signed back to Buffalo’s practice squad after clearing waivers last August, and that could very well happen again this year.
Gore Jr. had 4,022 rushing yards and 692 receiving yards across four seasons at Southern Miss. He scored 30 total touchdowns.
Shedeur Sanders makes Browns roster; Dillon Gabriel named QB2 | ESPN
The Cleveland Browns have trimmed their crowded quarterback room and named a backup.
After trading Kenny Pickett to the Las Vegas Raiders and releasing Tyler Huntley, the Browns will enter the regular season with three quarterbacks — starter Joe Flacco and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Tuesday that Gabriel, who was selected in the third round of the draft, would enter the season as Flacco’s backup.
Former starting quarterback Deshaun Watson was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. He will miss the first four games of the season as he continues to rehab an Achilles injury that the team expects to sideline him for most of the season.

Xavier Worthy: Chiefs’ offense came out ‘juiced and ready’ against Bears
Wide receiver Xavier Worthy thinks his teammates came into the matchup with the right frame of mind.
“I think we came out with a lot of excitement,” he recalled before Tuesday’s practice. “I feel like that’s just kind of been the morale of the group: everybody came out juiced and ready. I feel like we didn’t want to come out. We were having so much fun, I feel like that’s just kind of our core right now. Like our coach says all the time: ‘Let your personality show.’ I feel like we’re letting that happen.”
Worthy was not surprised to see the former second-round pick for the New England Patriots connect for a big, dynamic play with the league’s best quarterback.
“That’s something we were doing all camp,” Worthy explained. “That’s what we’ve worked on. That didn’t surprise me that it happened in the game. Tyquan’s been catching those all camp; he’s really been showing up. So it just shows the work we’ve been putting in.”
