Rumors regarding Micah Parsons swirled on social media Tuesday night. X was discussing a possible trade between the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, sending Parsons to a bitter NFC rival. The noise was loud enough to where reporters surrounding the team were discussing the possibility.

NFL Network’s Jane Slater has a “conspiracy theory” behind the rumors, though. She believes the Cowboys might be playing into the trade discussion involving Parsons. Ultimately, the goal would be to spook Parsons enough to get him signed for a long-term extension.

“My conspiracy theory on this is, maybe this is a rumor that the Cowboys are leaning into a little bit to make Micah Parsons uncomfortable enough to come to Jerry, kiss the ring, and get this thing done,” Slater said via The Pat McAfee Show.

Usually, rumors on social media are not brought into much light. However, Slater did admit she tracks down stories when necessary due to a real-life scenario. When covering the Texas Rangers, Slater once found out a player was heading to Cleveland due to his daughter telling a preseason school teacher.

“I was losing a little bit of sleep last night because, while I still feel confident that this thing is going to get done, we’ve got to pay some attention to some of these content aggregators out there,” Slater said. “These content creators. Because you never know where scoops are coming from… You have to run them all down.”

Either way, any talks involving Parsons and a trade are nothing but rumors at the moment. The Cowboys are off for the next couple of days, not practicing again until Friday. Just over a week remains until the Sept. 4 season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

A back injury might wind up playing a role in whether or not Parsons suits up. He was spotted inside Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Wednesday, only feeding the flames. But Slater quickly squashed any concerns, saying Parsons is going to get a second opinion on the back.

“No he’s not headed to Cabo,” Slater wrote on Twitter/X. “I’m told Micah Parsons is seeking a second opinion on his back per a source informed. The Cowboys are off until Friday.”

Week 4 now brings a good deal of interest, Parsons trade or not. Dallas will host Green Bay on Sunday Night Football, always an important one on both teams’ schedules. Exactly what jersey Parsons is wearing, we might find out in the next few days.
