Question: On his emotions learning he made the roster

Dylan Horton: “Excitement. It’s a blessing to be part of this defensive line, this group and this team. So, I got to share that information with my family, it was a cool moment.”

Q: On how different it’s been having an entire Training Camp where he’s healthy

Horton: “I try to take advantage of every opportunity and being able to go through this camp, especially with [Defensive Line] Coach Rod [Wright], [Assistant Defensive Line Coach] Frank [Okam] and everybody in this defensive line room who were so generous with their time. We all wanted to help each other get better and take advantage of those moments. Having this opportunity to go through camp was a great experience.”

Q: On if he feels more different physically or mentally heading into the season

Horton: “Both. I celebrated a birthday, 25, so I got a little older. But, also, in the offseason we did a lot of training up here at the facility and back in Frisco. But being able to capitalize on growth physically and mentally going into the season.”

Q: On what he can incorporate from his teammates in the defensive line room into his game

Horton: “There are some great people in the room to watch and gain information [from]. How to be a better player, how to be a better person on and off the field. The way everybody carries themselves is always something you can take from anybody. So, Will [Anderson Jr.] or ‘D-Hunt’ [Danielle Hunter] their leadership, their mentality of how they approach every game, every rep. You can look at the moves they do, but even their character as people that’s something to pay attention to.”

Q: On how it felt to have a full, healthy offseason

Horton: “It was great from the standpoint of working out. I felt like I got into a solid routine with things I need to work on, things I need to improve. Even being able to have that time to go visit my family or do things that take my mind away from football enough to go back and prepare the way I need to prepare.”

Q: On what has been his biggest area of growth

Horton: “I had three main goals going into this offseason. One was my weight; I wanted to gain a little weight from the end of last season going into the offseason. Another was working on my extension as I play long and being the best teammate that I can. Being able to connect with my teammates and have that personal relationship on and off the field.”

Q: On how important Defensive Line Coach Rod Wright has been in his career

Horton: “He’s been instrumental. From all the coaches that played a part in getting me here, him specifically being able to help develop everybody in the room. Specifically, the defensive ends in this case. Having his knowledge around and his representation of what he wants the room to be like and the energy he brings every day has been very positive on the group.”

Q: On how important his family unit has been to get him to this point

Horton: “I feel like family was everything. Going through any situation, you want people around you to help you out and to help motivate you. Hard and positive situations. Them being there, around me every day with a phone call [or] text away has been beautiful.”

Q: On what makes the defensive line room so connected

Horton: “I think it’s just the people that we’ve got. Our relationship with each other, I feel like everybody’s different and that’s a good thing. We all have something to talk about, we all have something to relate to, different experiences. Just the fact that we can all get on the same page to get on the field and be our best, that’s what’s special about this group.”
