Weekend Warm-up: Could Dayot Upamecano really leave Bayern Munich in 2026?; Checking out ‘End of Beginning’ by Djo; No release clause for Michael Olise; Bundesliga predictions; and MORE!

Should Bayern Munich just wait another year for Nick Woltemade?

There have been a myriad of different transfer sagas and contract dealings that have arisen this summer for Bayern Munich, but one name that has not gotten a ton of attention is center-back Dayot Upamecano.

Entering the final year of his contract, Upamecano called off talks with the Bavarians earlier this summer because the two sides were not close and also because he want to put his focus on his upcoming season instead of his contract.

According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Upamecano still is not keen on Bayern Munich’s latest offer:

🚨⏳ FC Bayern are remaining patient and still want to extend Dayot #Upamecano’s contract.

A deal until 2030 is on the table, but there is still no agreement on salary. Negotiations ongoing.

Given the state of Bayern Munich’s backline — in particular its center-back group — both fans and the club might want to start getting at least a little concerned about what is going on.

Real Madrid and Manchester United have already checked in as potential destinations for Upamecano and the list will likely grow if the Frenchman gets off to a hot start this season (he is on his way, so far). Yes, the summer of 2026 is going to represent a period of change, but keeping Upamecano is one thing that should stay the same. Otherwise, a massive investment for a top-flight central defender will be the next big ticket item on Bayern Munich’s wish list.

Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show Season 5, Episode 5

Bayern Munich is off to a solid start, but the transfer market has been hard on the Bavarians (despite some quality acquisitions and sales).

Let dive right into the hottest topics on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show:

  • Bayern munich whiffed on VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade this summer and now the attacker is headed to Newcastle United. What does this mean for Bayern Munich’s summer transfer window and beyond.
  • The Bayern Munich supervisory board shot down requests from max Eberl and Vincent Kompany for Xavi Simons. Was that the best for the club and this season’s team or was it a big mistake?
  • Some good vibes from Thomas Müller and his smooth transition to MLS with Vancouver.

Song of the Week: “End of Beginning” by Djo

I cannot really put my finger on it, but I have been listening to the radio a lot again and this song really caught my attention.

Bavarian Podcast Works — Preview Show: FC Augsburg vs. Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich will hit the road to face off with its old striker — and academy product — Sandro Wagner.

Wagner is now the coach at FC Augsburg and got his team off to a good start in the Bundesliga with a big win over SC Freiburg. Now, though, the stakes are higher as Bayern Munich will roll into town for what should be a major test for Die Fuggerstädter. Let’s get into it, this is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Preview Show:

  • What to watch for with FC Augsburg.
  • How Wagner can build a winner (Hint: It will not be easy).
  • A look at Bayern Munich’s injury situation.
  • A guess at Bayern Munich’s starting XI.
  • A prediction on the match.

“I did not have relations with that release clause” — or something like that

Bayern Munich wants it to be well known — Michael Olise does not have a release clause included in his deal. With Manchester City, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain interested, Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl tracked down the information (via @iMiaSanMia):

Both Bayern and the player’s camp have denied the existence of a release clause in Michael Olise’s contract. There’s no contractual ‘exit strategy’ for the player. Olise is closely followed by several top clubs such as PSG, Liverpool and Manchester City, but Bayern have no intention of selling him and are planning with him as a key player for years to come.

Predictions

Bundesliga

Bayern Munich will make the short trip to FC Augsburg to take on rookie head coach and former Bayern Munich striker Sandro Wagner.

Wagner will surely be motivated to take down his old club and make a good impression, but that is easier said than done these days. At this stage, Bayern Munich — despite a somewhat uneven performance midweek in the DFB-Pokal — is still too strong for Augsburg at this point.

Prediction: FC Augsburg 0-3 Bayern Munich

Other Bundesliga predictions include:

  • Hamburger SV 1-1 St. Pauli
  • Hoffenheim 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt
  • RB Leipzig 3-1 Heidenheim
  • VfB Stuttgart 2-2 Borussia Mönchengladbach
  • Werder Bremen 2-2 Bayer Leverkusen
  • VfL Wolfsburg 1-2 Mainz 05
  • Borussia Dortmund 3-1 Union Berlin
  • FC Köln 0-1 SC Freiburg
