Kentucky football has announced the team captains for Saturday’s season-opener against Toledo — and a couple of Lexington natives were honored with the title by Mark Stoops and his coaching staff.
The Wildcats’ Week 1 captains will be senior DB JQ Hardaway, senior TE Josh Kattus, junior DB Ty Bryant, and senior OL Jager Burton. This is the first time in each of their college careers that they’ve been named a captain.
Hardaway is the only captain who didn’t start his college journey at UK, but he’ll embark on year three with the Wildcats this weekend. Bryant is the only non-senior among the group. Kattus, Bryant, and Burton were all committed to Kentucky out of high school, with Bryant and Burton both coming from Lexington’s Frederick Douglass.
All four are listed as starters at their respective positions ahead of the Toledo game. Their expectations to perform will be high.
On top of the team captain announcement, we also learned the uniform combination for Saturday. Bryant served as the model for this week’s threads, which will feature a blue helmet, blue jersey, white pants, white cleats, and white gloves. It’s a clean look, made even cleaner by Bryant’s “TYB” necklace.
Kickoff is almost here, BBN. Kentucky will host Toledo inside Kroger Field on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
