Report details why Bayern Munich chose Nicolas Jackson over Christopher Nkunku

Did the Bavarians land on the right Blues brother?

Why did Bayern Munich settle on Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson over his Blues teammate and attacking midfielder Christopher Nkunku?

It isn’t only a matter of finances, though that plays a part. A couple of reports from German outlets Kicker and Bild, compiled together by @iMiaSanMia, paint the picture:

Bayern bosses had reservations over Christopher Nkunku – even if a loan had been possible, the deal wouldn’t have automatically met with full approval [@georg_holzner, @kicker]

Nicolas Jackson’s name was discussed at last Monday’s supervisory board meeting and the (loan) was approved. Chelsea want a double-digit million loan fee. Jackson earns around €6m gross per year at Chelsea, which is to be covered by Bayern if a deal is agreed [@altobelli13, @cfbayern]

BFW Analysis

It isn’t very unusual to see a report claiming that Bayern is sniffing their noses at a player for not being up to standard. As for the finances involved in the deal, the ample loan fee makes this a mini-transfer of sorts, but Jackson’s low-range salary for the year should help Bayern in its cost-cutting mission.

So…Jackson does meet the standard, then? We will see.
