Germany's Struff beats Tiafoe and reaches fourth US Open round

Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff reached the US Open round of 16 for the first time in his career, stunning home favourite Frances Tiafoe in straight sets on Friday. The 35-year-old qualifier defeated the two-time US Open semifinalist and world number 17 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) in 2 hours and 9 minutes.

Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff reached the US Open round of 16 for the first time in his career, stunning home favourite Frances Tiafoe in straight sets on Friday.

The 35-year-old qualifier defeated the two-time US Open semifinalist and world number 17 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) in 2 hours and 9 minutes. Struff briefly wobbled while serving for the match at 5-3 in the third set but recovered to close out a tense tiebreak.

In the fourth round, Struff will face Serbian top seed Novak Djokovic, who defeated Britain's Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-3. Djokovic took a medical timeout during the match due to apparent back problems.
