The Horns and the Buckeyes face off in a high-profile tilt.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — In the most anticipated non-conference matchup of the 2025 college football season, the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes are set to clash at 11 a.m. Central on FOX at Ohio Stadium, a game more than a decade in the making.
It’s a game that will determine the early frontrunner for the top seed in this year’s College Football Playoff and send the Arch Manning Hot Take Industrial Complex into overdrive after the redshirt sophomore quarterback makes his first start as QB1 in burnt orange and white.
Among the other compelling pre-game storylines are the health of Texas junior left tackle Trevor Goosby, who suffered a hand injury that was initially described as minor, but will reportedly render the replacement for Kelvin Banks a “game-time decision,” as well as the Longhorns depth chart — typically released to media before the season opener, it won’t become apparent until pre-game warmups, at which point Goosby’s status should become more clear, as well.
Game captains
About two and a half hours before kickoff, the Longhorns released the captains for the season opener.
