Barcelona confirm Gavi out for Rayo Vallecano clash with “knee discomfort”

And apparently nothing more

Barcelona announced early on Saturday that midfielder Gavi will miss Sunday’s La Liga match agtainst Rayo Vallecano due to “discomfort in his right knee”.

Alarm bells went off on Friday when Gavi left the training session with pain in his surgically repaired knee, and there was serious concern within the club that Gavi may have suffered a more serious injury.

Instead the club says it is only discomfort, which is much better news than initially feared. Gavi will also likely miss Spain’s upcoming games after being called up by Luis de la Fuente, but he’ll likely have to travel to the national team camp for further testing before being discharged, as is customary.

Barça don’t play again until mid-September due to the international break, so that gives Gavi time to rest his knee and get back to full fitness.

It does look like this is just a scare. Phew.
