It wasn’t pretty, but at least the Cats got the win.
Yesterday wasn’t pretty, but the Kentucky Wildcats wake up today 1-0 on the season.
For the most part, Kentucky’s defense came to play yesterday, minus a couple drives late in the game. The offense, however, was a different story.
Kentucky’s running game got going as the game went on, but the Wildcats never found any kind of rhythm in the passing game, as Zach Calzada completed just 43 percent of his passes and threw for 85 yards with an interception.
Only three wide receivers caught passes for Kentucky, combining for 4 catches for 12 yards.
Ultimately, Toledo out-gained Kentuck offensively, 329 to 305.
It was far from pretty, but the Kentucky defense came up with some big plays in the game, and the Wildcats were able to make some plays on the ground to come out with a win over a Toledo team determined to pull the upset.
Now, it’s back to the film room and to practice as the Wildcats welcome Ole Miss to Lexington next Saturday for the first SEC matchup of the season. This will be a big game to see how Kentucky stacks up in the SEC, but Lane Kiffin surely has last season’s matchup on his mind, when the Wildcats came to Oxford and knocked off Ole Miss, who was ranked #6 at the time.
