ENDWELL, N.Y. (WETM) – A trio of local high school football games thrilled the area to wrap up the week’s slate.

In a clash of defending Section IV Champions, Horseheads fended off Maine-Endwell on Saturday night 14-12. With the Spartans holding a 6-0 lead, late in the 3rd, the Blue Raiders finally responded on a touchdown pass from Dmitri Charlanow to Patrick Laney. The connection would give HHS the 7-6 advantage until the final 2:07 of the contest. At the aforementioned mark, Laney snuck through the middle of the offensive line and broke loose for another score.

Trialing 14-6, Maine-Endwell stormed down the field to mount a major response. Max Policare found the end zone for the Spartans, cutting the deficit to 14-12, and bringing the game down to a decisive 2-point try. On the attempt, M-E tried a quarterback option run to the right pylon, but were stopped short by the Blue Raiders’ defense, sealing their win.

Horseheads will look to defend their perfect (3-0) record, this coming Saturday (9/26) against Corning. The road matchup is set to kickoff at 6:30 p.m.

In 8-man football, Edison cruised to a dominant victory over Lansing 50-7 at home. The Spartans were lead by an outstanding day from senior running back Greg Golden, who tallied 174 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 8 defensive tackles. Quarterback Jace Shiller tacked on 2 additional scores with 112 total yards in only a half of football, while Ze’Quan Mosley added another touchdown.

Edison’s Greg Golden evades Lansing defenders for one of his three touchdowns, in a win over the Bobcats.

Edison will aim for their 3rd-straight win to start the season, September 27th at noon, when they travel to Newfield.

In the NTL, Sayre suffered another tough defeat. The Redskins fell to Muncy 42-0, as the Indians cruised to their 4th-straight victory.
