Cody Rhodes ends Wrestlepalooza as WWE Champion

They didn’t do a post-match angle either.

The main event of tonight’s (Sat., Sept. 20, 2025) Wrestlepalooza premium live event from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, featured WWE Champion Cody Rhodes putting his title on the line against Drew McIntyre.

Rhodes had been off for a few weeks filming Street Fighter, so they seemed to be telling the story that he had some ring rust and McIntyre was taking advantage of that, not to mention working less than 100-percent after the contract signing on SmackDown. Well, that and DM Hunk is just a big mammoth of a man who can do stuff like this:

Despite that, Rhodes persevered. McIntyre tried to take it to Cody at the announce table once again but ended up destroying his own leg, which directly resulted in Rhodes hitting a Cody Cutter and following it up with a single Cross Rhodes to give him the three count.

He is still the WWE champion.

There wasn’t much to it, as they played it relatively straight, but WWE kicked off the ESPN partnership with its top babyface standing tall to end the show.
